ASIC proposes licensing and operating standards for Australian digital-asset platforms
Australia’s ASIC has opened consultation on proposed guidance and standards for digital-asset platforms and tokenised-custody platforms ahead of laws due to commence on 8 April 2027. The proposals include AFS licensing, customer disclosures, asset-holding and settlement standards, and financial requirements where relevant. Consultation closes on 27 November 2026.
Why it matters For platform operators, compliance preparation extends beyond obtaining a licence: custody, settlement, customer documentation and, where applicable, capital resources must also meet the framework’s requirements.
What to watch next Responses are due by 5pm AEDT on 27 November 2026, giving affected businesses a defined opportunity to comment on the proposed standards.
