AfD email breach exposed more than 345,000 addresses and messages
Have I Been Pwned added data from the September 2026 breach of Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland, listing more than 345,000 unique email addresses and email messages. AfD said only a few mailboxes were copied and that affected users were notified; investigative journalist Lilith Wittmann disputed aspects of the party’s account and reported that leaked emails included excerpts from member databases and voter-register data. The hackers’ account of the intrusion has not been confirmed by the party or authorities.
What changed Following the September breach, HIBP added the data on 27 October. Verified email owners and domain administrators can now check exposure, but public searches are restricted.
Why it matters The privacy impact extends beyond party personnel: according to Wittmann, first-time voters’ registry records were included in mailbox contents, exposing people who need not have used AfD’s systems.
What to watch next Whether people named in the leaked emails—but not themselves users of the affected systems—received breach notifications remains an open question.
