OpenAI says GPT-6 Cyber uncovered 81 high-severity Firefox flaws
OpenAI said researchers used GPT-6 Cyber to identify 81 previously unknown Firefox vulnerabilities that Mozilla classified as high severity; Mozilla has released fixes for many of the flaws, with the model contributing proposed patches. The company also reported developing working exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities and said the model is initially available through its API and Codex to selected, approved customers in its Daybreak Red program. OpenAI said it added safeguards and classified the model as Critical for cybersecurity under its Preparedness Framework.
What changed OpenAI reports a higher ExploitGym score than its predecessor—48.5% versus 32.1%. That is a benchmark comparison, not a measured increase in real-world attack success.
Why it matters For Firefox users, the reported research has already produced fixes for many high-severity vulnerabilities, not just test results. The source does not establish that all 81 have been fixed.
What to watch next OpenAI plans to extend access from selected customers to all Daybreak Red customers; the report gives no rollout date.
