Hezbollah says seized explosives shipment belonged to the group
Hezbollah acknowledged that a shipment of explosives seized by Lebanese authorities last week belonged to the group, saying it was intended for use against Israel. A Lebanese judicial source said security forces arrested two men suspected of belonging to Hezbollah while they were transporting 500 kilograms of explosives; Hezbollah MP Hassan FadlAllah said the group contacted security and judicial authorities after the vehicle was stopped.
Why it matters The seizure creates a concrete test of Lebanon’s pledge to bring weapons under state authority: authorities now have an enforcement case involving two suspects and 500 kilograms of explosives.
